The Club will be operating from the Battleship USS North Carolina Memorial, using call sign NI4BK, our own radio gear, but the Ship's original coax cabling and antennas. We'll be on 20 and 40 meters, SSB & CW from Radio Central, and will probably work a 2 meter handheld FM just for local grins. We plan to have the gear on board by Friday, so we
will meet in the Ship parking lot at 11:30 AM or so, go on board,
hook up the gear, and get on the air. If you plan on joining us for
most of the afternoon, you might want to bring some bottled water
and a snack. If you can't join us for the whole time, pop in, say
hello, and operate for a bit if you like.

This important monthly meeting of the ACARC will present the first
opportunity for members to vote for adoption of the long needed and long
anticipated revisions to the Club Constitution. The balloting period will commence during this May meeting at the
College, continue through the June meeting at McDaniel Farms across
College Road from the College, and through Field Day activities at
Hugh MacRae Park on the weekend of June 25 and 26. For
administrative purposes, balloting will close at Noon on Sunday,
June 26, as Field Day is winding down. Club members will therefore have at least four opportunities to vote
in person. Members who cannot vote in person may do so either by
requesting a "proxy ballot" and vote by mail, or, by e-mail.
June 2005
11 VEC testing at UNCW 10 AM ,
Morton Hall.
18 ARRL Kid's Day at Hugh MacRae Park--one week before Field
Day--good opportunity for tune up. We plan on setting up for a few hours
in the afternoon to give kids the opportunity to speak through Amateur
Radio. However, since we are almost at the bottom of the solar cycle, HF
contacts may be a problem. We may therefore have to rely mainly on local
repeater contacts on VHF/UHF, or on simplex. Anyone willing to set up
for digital communications will also be most welcome. If you cannot turn
out for the afternoon at the Park, perhaps you could operate from your
home or mobile so the kids will have plenty of chances for at least
local contacts.
21 Tuesday from 12 Noon to 1 PM is
the first annual "Take Your HT To Work Day". Listen for our esteemed
President, Bill Usher (AG4PA), on WAAV's Talk of the Town newsmagazine
with host Donn Ansell next Tuesday morning, June 21, on WAAV-AM, 980
KHz. Exact time: TBA
25-26 Field Day 2005
- The serious underlying purpose of the activity, however, does not
preclude the members from having fun: socializing, enjoying good
fellowship along with some good food, honing communications skills, or
otherwise having fun. Please plan to turn out and share both the serious
and not so serious aspects of the activity. Shelter #2 at Ogden
Park. Setup starting at 8 AM Saturday and shutdown at 12 Noon on Sunday.
