Dave Haase (N4CAT) will be on hand to talk about pirate radio. As some of you remembered, Dave gave a great talk about old time radio and restoration projects.

          21 The club is going to sponsor a radio class at Cape Fear Community College. The class will meet for 6 (SIX) Saturdays starting February 21st. Several members have said they would be willing to help teach the class. If anyone is interested in helping please contact Ed- W4EBR by email or phone (686 5206). Please pass this around to friends and neighbors.

          29 NC QSO Party this Sunday, Feb. 29, aboard the Battleship from 12 Noon to 5 P.M. Details on the net tonight. Last year the Azalea Coast Club came in 4th in the Tar Heel state. March 2004

May 2004

         21-26 Keep an eye out for a boatload of media this week about Field Day. Wed., several hams and I will be on WECT-TV's Carolina In The Morning (Channel 6 broadcast; Channel 7 Time-Warner cable) about 6:10 AM with Bob Townsend. On Thursday, 6:10 AM again for WWAY-TV (Channel 3 broadcast; Channel 10 Time-Warner cable) Good Morning Carolina with Daniel Seamans. Friday morning about 6:40 AM, WAAV-980 AM's Talk of The Town with Donn Ansell will feature Field Day. Also, Thursday's Star-News is supposed to have a lengthy feature article on Field Day.

         26-27    Field Day 2004 is at Ogden Park site #2 same as last year. Contact Glen AG4NO by email. For you early risers, we will meet at K & W for breakfast at 8:00 AM. Then travel to Ogden Park around 9:00 AM. We are hoping the band conditions will be favorable for 20 and 40 Meter operation. We did so well last year that I am hoping for as good a turnout this year. Glen Day (AG4NO) is the event chairman and he has worked very hard to duplicate last years efforts. Besides the 2 stations, we hope to have a GOTA (GET ON THE AIR) station and a Six Meter station. Around 6:00 PM the club will provide a catered barbecue dinner. All members are encouraged to attend. Also during the day, evening and night operation there will be lots of munchies. So come on out and socialize on Saturday and Sunday. Hope to see everyone there.

         21-22 Amateur Radio Lighthouse Society will have the Summer QSO Party (International Lighthouse & Lightship Weekend). September 2004

          21  The monthly club meeting will be at UNCW.  Rag Chews start at 7:00 PM with meeting starting at 7:30 PM. The program will be presented by Bob Young owner of Tarheel Antennas of Fuquay-Varina. The topic will be  about HF mobile and his famous screwdriver antennas.

October 2004

           9 VE Testing at UNCW Morton Hall 10:00 AM.

          19 Monthly club Dinner meeting at McDaniel's FARM on College Road across form UNCW at 6:30 PM with meeting starting about 7:30 PM. This is a new meeting place so the members can get a break from Barbecue. If you want to get a head start on your 2005 dues, you can pay at the club meeting. Individual membership $20.00, Family membership $25.00 and student membership $7.00. Carl Filipak (KC8BQT) has donated a Drake TR-4 transceiver to the club. R. L. Drake was one of the primer amateur radio builders back in the 60's and 70's. They produced very fine receiving and transmitting equipment. If you want a real piece of fine radio equipment, bring you check book because we are going to have an auction. Also we will be auctioning off a Kenwood 2 meter radio and SWR bridge. If any one has additional equipment they would like to donate for the auction bring it along. See you at the meeting!

         30 Statewide Simulated Emergency Test will take place from 8 AM until noon. This will take place starting on 3927 kHz after NCMN and will shift to 3923 kHz once that frequency becomes clear, or 7232 kHz as needed. All stations are invited to participate and counties that have active SETs are encouraged to make liaison with the net.

November 2004

"I have enjoyed serving the club and will continue to serve the organization in any way that I can." 
Notes from Meeting:

  • 19 members present.
  • Battleship USS North Carolina - Operations from radio 2 Starting December 6 and continuing December 7th Pearl Harbor day. Will stop operations for the Tuesday evening Holiday party.
  • One more repeater up and running - Lumberton.
  • Benson Hamfest this weekend.

December 2004   

        6-7 The club will operate the ship's transmitter and receiver on  CW  on Dec 7. The event would actually start on Monday night Dec 6. at 0000utc on 7.030,the 40 meter band. This is a CW event .  We can use anyone who wants to come out to help log. We will quite early on Dec7 because of our Christmas party. The ship is close after about 10:00 at night ,you can't leave or get on. The club has some CW operators now so this I hope will spur others on to work some CW. Please puts this out , I need CW operators and loggers . I need to know in advance so I can make arrangement's with the ship.  Jack WD4OIN
 

           7 Holiday Party - at O'Charley's Restaurant on South College Road (Monkey Junction). Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves last year and from what they told me afterwards it’s a very good place. Space, food selection from the menu, etc.  Attitude adjustment 6:30 to 7:30, dinner (order from menu) 7:30 to 8:30, gift exchange ($10.00) and coffee.
