special Event for the Battleship will be the Museum of Ships Special Event
on July 20-21. The club will man the ship on both days.

17-18 The
International Lighthouse Weekend QSO Party will be on the weekend of
August 17th and 18th. The club will be operating at The USCG Station at
Oak Island. We need operators for Saturday and Sunday. We had a pretty
good turnout at field day so here is your chance to play some more. Lets
really make an effort to really let everyone know that the club is alive

20 Monthly club

The monthly meeting was held on August 20, 2002 at New Hanover
Hospital with 12 members present. Some of the topics discussed were
Lighthouse weekend, Battleship operations, ARES, QSL's and the Christmas
party. Paul Magnabosco - AD4HZ made an excellent presentation IIS (
International Space Station) amateur operations. The presentation handout

Monthly club meeting at New Hanover Hospital - AHEC building. Election of
new officers. Rag Chews start at 7:00 PM with meeting starting at 7:30 PM,

- Club meeting notes. A very good attendance for
the club meeting. Topics of discussion:
- Next club meeting will be January 21, 2003 at
CFCC down town. More parking, less walking. Try it and we will see how
we like it.
- Dinner meeting will be on even month at
Alleigh's restaurant (February, April, June, August, October with
Christmas party in December at a place to be determined)
- Club annual dues for next year will be $20, the
same as this year. A committee will contact current and past members
for 2003 membership.
- The January 2003 and March 2003 meetings will
be at Cape Fear Community College. The February 2003 meeting will be
at McAllister's Restaurant.
- Discussion on Light House operations. The QSL's
have been received.
- Discussion on the original equipment on the
Battleship USS North Carolina. Suggestion of special event station
using on CW and original equipment. Possible certificate for working
the ship.
- FieldDay 2003 will be the weekend of June
28-29. Will operate again at Hugh MacRae
Park this year.
- Interest is having a new ham class at CFCC. The
class would be over 10 weeks with 2 hour classes 1 day per week.
- VE testing again this year. Jack-WD4OIN will
step down as leader and Jeff-KE4LKB will take over.
- Jeff-KE4LKB will take over the Club Newspaper.

3 Christmas Party -
The annual club Christmas Party will be December 3, 2002 at Alleigh's
restaurant. Social at 6:30 PM
with dinner starting about 7:30 PM. All members and their families should participate.
Non members are always welcome. Please get your reservations in
immediately for an evening of fun and fellowship. You can e-mail
information to acarc@ac4rc.org . Each
person attending, should bring a small (not more
than $10.00) gift to exchange.
Be sure to mark it for MAN or WOMAN. The social event of the year
...... do not miss it. See all of you there at 6:30 PM.
- The Christmas party was a great success. The
unofficial count was 52 in attendance. The food was great and the
conversation and fellowship was even better.

28-29 Amateur Radio Light House
Society QSO Party at US Coast Guard Station Oak
Island. Glen Day ( AG4NO ) is the contact person (

The Amateur Radio Light House
Society sponsors a QSO party starting December 20th and running thru
the 5th of January. Members attempt to put as many lighthouses on
the air as possible. Our club will operate on the weekend of the
28th and 29th. Several of our members participate and the weekend
can be a lot of fun. Saturday morning the 28th those who are
interested will go down and set up. The club will provide food and
drink to all those who want to go. We will operate from Saturday AM
right thru Sunday PM ( 2 or 3 ). Operating times are at your
choosing. Come early and stay late. If you have any questions please

Glenn Day has been working very hard to bring
this operation off. We will gather for breakfast at K & W at 8 AM on
Saturday December 28 and then proceed to Oak Island to pit up the
antenna and get on the air. Operating times are from 11 AM Saturday
to around 2PM on Sunday. We will try and have 2 stations on the air
id possible. Food and drink will be provided by the club. This will
be a time of fellowship and good times, so please come out and
support the club.The members
that turned out had a great time. About 250 QSO's were made
including across the pond and New Zealand. The club will be involved
in the North Carolina QSO party Sunday February 23, 2003. Details
later. Get involved in some club activities and put Wilmington and
our club back on the map. This is a time to learn, operate, have fun
and really enjoy Ham Radio. |
