Dec. 2013 Club meeting

On Dec. 10 the annual ACARC Christmas Party was held at Habachi Grill. This will take the place of the monthly meeting. Merry Christmas to all !

Nov. 2013 Club Meeting


The November 2013 ACARC meeting was held on November 19 at CFCC. President Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) called the meeting to order at 7;00 pm.

Each person in attendance gave a brief report on recent ham radio activity.

The club will be operating from the battleship on December 7, 2013. All are invited to come aboard and help on this historic day.

The club will have their annual Christmas party on December 10, 2013.at the Hibachi Grill, This will take the place of our December meeting.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. Field day 2013 was a success thanks to the many members who came out to help. Our club came in second this year and that was a big improvement from last year.

The officers for next year were elected. David McGough (KB4FXC) will be the new trustee for our ACARC repeater. Harvey Hutchison (NK0S) will be the new vice president. Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) will continue as president. Allan Pellnat (KX2H) will continue as treasure. Norman Clemmons (KI4YSY) will continue as secretary. The meeting was adjourned at 0815 pm.

October 2013 Club Meeting


The October meeting of the Acarc was held on tuesday, October 15. 2013, at cfcc north campus. President Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Each member in attendance introduced themselves and reported on any recent ham radio activity. Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report.

There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 8:00 pm.

September 2013 Club Meeting


The monthly meeting of ACARC was held at CFCC north campus on tuesday, September 17,2013. The meeting was called to order by president Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) at 7:00 pm. Each person in attendance introduced themselves and gave a brief update on recent Ham Radio activity. We had a larger crowd attending than usual. Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. The club is in decent shape financially. Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) presented a program on his recent purchase of a large tower antenna. He called it his Tower Shock. After some extended discussion the meeting was adjourned at 0830 pm.

August 2013 Club Meeting


The monthly meeting of acarc was held on August 20, 2013, CFCC north campus. The meeting was called to order by president Charlie Vaughn(K4UWH) at 7:00 pm. Each person in attendance introduced themselves and gave a brief report on recent ham radio activity. Bill Morine (N2COP) gave a interesting report on homemade antennas. Of special interest was a slinky antenna he constructed. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:10 pm.

July 2013 Club Meeting


The July meeting of the acarc was held tuesday,July 16, 2013 at cfcc. The meeting was called to order by Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) at 7:00 pm. Each person in attendance gave a brief statement on recent ham radio activity.

Davi McGough (KB4FXC) along with Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) presented a detailed follow up on field day that was held last month at Ogden Park. The results were better than last years. Many suggestions were given to improve our performance for next year. After a lengthy discussion on field day president Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) closed the meeting at 8:20 pm.

June 2013 club Meeting


The June meeting of the acarc was held June 18,2013 at cfcc north campus. President Charlie Vaughn(K4uwh) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. A good crowd was in attendance and each person gave a brief description of recent radio activity.

Steve Wilder (AJ4JJ) gave a report on VE testing. Stephen (NI4SR) gave and update on emergency communications and is working closely with local officials. Harvey Hutchinson (NK0S) gave the treasures report. David McGough (KB4FXC) gave a detailed report on field day preparations. Everything appears to ready for June 22 & 23 at Ogden Park. Everyone is encouraged to come out and make this field day a success. The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 pm.

The May meeting of the ACARC was held at CFCC on May 21,2013. President Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person in attendance gave a report on their recent ham radio activity. Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report.

Museum ships weekend is June 1&2. All members are urged to come to the battleship and participate. Ed Redingers wife has some radio equipment for sale if anyone is interested. Field Day is June 22&23. Brad (WD4FTR) will be preparing the meal for saturday night.

Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) gave a brief report on a QRP contest he participated in recently. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

April 2013 Club Meeting


The monthly meeting of the ACARC was held on tuesday April 16, 2013 at Cape Fear Community College. A nice crowd of ham radio operators and guests were in attendance.


President Charlie Vaughn( K4UWH) called the meeting to order at 7 pm. Each ham and quest introduced themselves and discussed any recent radio activites.


Jack Jacobs(WD4OIN) gave a report on recent activity at the battleship. June 1 and 2 is museum ships weekend and all members are encouraged to participate.


President Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) reminded all of Field Day on june 22 and 23. David McGough (KB4FXC) discussed last years Field Day.


Harwin Smith (KI4TGG) gave a great program about his sailing experiences. Harwin participated in the Annapolis, Md to Bermuda sailing race a number of times.The race took 7 to 8 days to complete and required a lot of logistic requirements in preparaton for the race. Food, water, safety, and navigation and other considerations

March 2013 Club Meeting


The March 2013 acarc meeting was held at CFCC on tuesday , March 19, 2013. President Charlie Vaughn(K4UWH) called the meetinh to order at 7;00 pm. Each person in attendance gave a brief explanation of recent ham radio activity.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. He also discussed passing out a copy of the club roster to anyonr interested. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) gave a report on recent activity on the battleship. The North Carolina QSO was a great success as we made more contacts than last year. We could have used more members to participate but all in all it was a successful excersize.

Steve Wilder(AJ4JJ) gave a report on VE testing for this month. There was a discussion on moving the testing to another location because of difficulty with coverage by CFCC.

Charlie Vaughn and Bill Morine lead a discussion on the new format of the Charlotte Ham Convention. There being no more business the meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Febuary 2013 Club Meeting


The feburary meeting of the acarc was held on tuesday, Feburary 19, 2013 at Cape Fear Community College north campus. Vice President Don Hall (N4OFF) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person in attendance gave a brief explanation of recent ham radio activity. Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) urged each member to come to the Battleship on Sunday, Febuary 24 for the North Carolina QSO party. We will meet on the ship at 0930 in the breakroom. The contest will run from 1000am to 8:00pm. Harvey Hutchinson (NK0S) gave a presentation on JT65-HF. Vice President Don Hall (N4OFF) closed the meeting at 8:15 pm.

January 2013 Club Meeting


The January meeting of the ACARC was held at CFCC on tuesday, January 15, 2013. President Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Each Ham in attendace gave a brief description of recent radio operations. There were four new ham operators in attendance. President Vaughn thanked all who have volunteered to fill vacancies left when Bill Usher passed away. Bill held many important positions in the club.

Charlie Vaughn provided a video on ham radio contact with the International Space Station. The stations call sign is NA1SS.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. The meeting was dismissed at 8:40 pm.
