Nov. 2015 Club Minutes


The November meeting of the acarc was held on Tuesday, November 17 at CFCC. President Pete Long (WB3FYR) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person present gave a brief report on their recent ham radio activity.

The club approved an outlay of $490.00 for installing digital equipment on the battleship.

Our Christmas party will be held on December 8 at 6 pm. It will be at the Olive Garden and will take place of our December meeting.

Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) was elected president for 2016. Other officers remain the same.

Jeff Bixby (W4BIX) presented a program on setting up a station in the field like we do on field day. Harvey Hutchinson (NK0S) presented a program on field day 2016 involving 6 meter VHF. He also reported on Barnes and Noble bookstore mini market fair held on November 7. James Kapetsky (K3DEP) presented a pictorial account of field day 2015.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.

Oct. 2015 Club Minutes


The October meeting of the acarc was held on Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Cape Fear Community College. President Pete Long (WB3FYR) called the meeting to order at 7:00. Each person present gave a short account of recent ham radio activity.

Allan Pellnat gave the treasures report. Steve Wilder (AJ4JJ) gave a report on VE testing. Jeff Holmes (NC4JF) reported on our participation in the Beach to Battleship race. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) reported on Battleship activity. Harvey Hutchinson (NK0S) reported that shirts and hats are about ready to be produced with our clubs logo on them. Linwood Todd (NT4F) said the new repeater is 99% ready to go.

No program was able to be presented because of visual aid was not available. The program will be available at our next meeting. There being no more business the meeting was adjourned 8:20 pm.

Sept. 2015 Club Minutes

The September meeting of acarc was held on Tuesday, september 15 at cfcc Vice president Harvey Hutchinson (NK0S) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person attending gave a brief report on recent ham radio activity.

Hutch also gave the treasures report. Linwood Todd (NT4F) gave a report on our new repeater. It is just about ready to put on line. George Morse (KM4DSI) gave a report on health and welfare. He also reported on purchasing name tags at a real good price if anyone is interested. He had some examples with him.

Hutch gave a program on Torriods. The what and why to wind torriods was explained. Under old business t-shirts and hats with the clubs logo may soon be available for purchase. The meeting was adjourned at 8:15.

No Aug. Club Minutes


July 2015 Club Minutes


The july meeting of acarc was held on tuesday, july 21 at CFCC. President Pete Long (WB3FYR) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person present gave a brief report on recent ham radio activity.

Steve Wilder (AJ4JJ) gave a report on VE testing. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) reported on recent activity at the battleship.

Jeff Bixby ( W4BIX) presented an Elmer award to Linwood Todd (NT4F) from ARRL.

Harvey Hutchison (NKOS) gave the treasures report. Linwood Todd gave a report on our repeater. David McGough (KB4FXC) gave a detailed report on field day. Weather was a big factor as storms came through Saturday evening. We still made around 600 contacts in spite of conditions. The club will reimburse Brad for expenses incurred for meals.

Pete Long presented a program on future items the club may want to do in the coming year.

June 2015 Club


The June meeting of t he ACARC was held on June 16,2015 at CFCC. The meeting was called to order by vice president Harvey Hutchinson (NKOS). Each person present gave a brief report on recent radio activity.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. Steve Wilder (AJ4JJ) reported on VE testing. Jack Jacobs reported that last weekend during Museum Ships Weekend we had a total of 17 ham operators that participated in the event. That was the most operators we have ever had to work the contest. A total of 710 contacts were confirmed.

David McGough (KB4FXC) said the new repeater was ready to be placed in service. Field day is June 27 & 28 and everything looks good for this year. Linwood Todd (NT4F) suggested we sell our 600 watt amplifier.

Bill Morine (N2COP) gave a presentation on satellite communication. After the 50-50 drawing the meeting was adjourned at 8:04

May 2015 Club


The may meeting of the ACARC was held on May 19, 2015 at CFCC. The meeting was called to order at 7:00 by vice president Harvey HUTCHINSON (NKOS). Each person in attendance gave a brief report on recent radio activity.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) reported on recent battleship activity. Steve Wilder (AJ4JJ) reported on last months VE testing. Linwood Todd (NT4F) gave a report on our club repeater. He suggested we purchase some new equipment for the repeater. A motion was made and voted on to acquire this equipment. The motion passed and about $300 dollars was approved.

A discussion on field day for the last weekend in June was held and many things were mentioned. This year we will have a pig-picking on Saturday in place of spaghetti.

Pete Long (WB3FYR) was elected president of acarc. Jeff Bixby (W4BIX) asked anyone who wants any thing put in our newsletter to notify him. Each person present signed a petition to be hand-carried to our congressmen pertaining to a bill to allow antennas in neighborhoods.

April 2015 Club Meeting


The April meeting of acarc was held on April 21, 2015 at CFCC. VP Harvey Hutchinson(NKOS) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person in attendance gave a brief report on recent radio activity.

Allan Pellnat(KX2H) gave the treasures report. Jack Jacobs gave a report on Battleship activity in the last month. Steve Wilder(AJ4JJ) gave a report on VE testing. Linwood Todd (NT4F) gave a follow up report on the azalea festival special event station. There were 694 contacts made in what was a very successful event .

President Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) tendered his resignation as president of the ACARC. He has health issues that prohibit his activity. He will continue to participate and support the club to the best of his ability.

Vp Hutchinson is still working on setting up a general license class but it will be in the fall.

The club needs to find a facility to store our equipment in one place. There was a discussion on field day preparation. Nothing has been done so far.

Bill Morine (N2COP) presented a program on HF ANTENNAS AROUND THE WORLD. A very enlighten and interesting program enjoyed by all. The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

March 2015 Club Meeting


The march meeting of ACARC was held on Tuesday, March 17,2015. Vice President Harvey Hutchinson (NKOS) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. Each person present gave a brief report on recent ham radio activity.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. Vp Hutchinson reported on setting up a class for general license applicants. Linwood Todd reported on equipment donated to the club from Harwin Smith. Some of the equipment will be retained by the club and the rest put up for sale. Linwood also reminded the club of a special event station for the Azalea Festival.

Linwood Todd (NT4F) gave a very interesting presentation of Digital Mobile Radio. There being no more business the meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.

February 2015 Club Meeting


The Febuary meeting of ACARC was held at CFCC on Tuesday, febuary 17 at 7:00 pm. Vice President Harvey Hutchinson (NKOS) opened the meeting at 7:05.

Each person present gave a brief explanation of recent ham radio activity. Steve Wilder (AJ4JJ) gave a report on VE testing. Two technician and one general and one extra passed. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) gave a report on recent Battleship activity. Linwood Todd (NT4F) reported on running a special event station during Azalea Festival 2015.

Harwin Smith (KI4TGG) became a silent key last December. His family donated his radio equipment to the club. Contact Linwood or Jack if interested in buying some equipment.

Allan Pellnat presented a program on Why Use CW. A great program enjoyed by all!

January 2015 Club Meeting

Presidnent Charlie Vaughn (K4UWH) called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

Each person present gave a brief report on recent ham radio activity.

Allan Pellnat (KX2H) gave the treasures report. Jack Jacobs (WD4OIN) gave a report on recent activity on the Battleship.

There was a discussion on finding someplace other than CFCC to hold a license class course. Plans were discussed on setting up study courses for technician and general radio license.

James Kapetsky (K3DEP) finished his presentation of Eagles Island. Everyone enjoyed his program very much.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:40 pm.
